Brand New Bag

I'm pretty loyal to my bags, mainly due to pure laziness.  It takes me approximately 3-6 months to rotate between styles and I'm extremely fussy.  I don't want bling or too much going on, just minimal details and clean lines.  This is perhaps why I love satchels so much, they remind me of a simpler time when my only worries were homework and remembering my P.E kit but are now extremely current with numerous colours available.  Although I love my tan satchel to bits, I wanted to change to a different colour for Autumn and decided on a shiny navy style from The Leather Satchel Company.  myI also got my initials engraved to stamp a bit of ownership onto it and was pleased to find that the company offers numerous extras to make the bag perfect for each individual  One thing that annoyed me about my previous satchel was the difficulty getting in and out of the bag and with my OCD tendencies of checking for things, the straps got worn pretty quickly.  No such problem this time, I now have magnetic fasteners to check that all my wordly possessions are intact and a comfy shoulder pad for when I fill it with too much rubbish.

Contents of said grown up bag: house keys, Ibuprofen, Maoam, Moleskine diary, fineliner pen, business cards, Oyster card, Carmex, Blackberry, Marc Jacobs mirror compact, work identity pass, purse

What are your thoughts on satchels?  I'm loving having a slightly more grown up style and my only regret is missing out my mysterious middle initial.  Most of my 'reviews' on this blog are rather hidden, but as an avid satchel wearer I thought I'd focus on the bag and share how happy I am with it so far.  Expect to see the satchel a lot more often until I move on to my next colour, I'm thinking red and slightly smaller...

  1. I love, love, love this satchel! This is the one you brought to The Dorchester yes?

  2. Oh this is so lovely Kristabel, aren't Leather Satchel Co awesome? I too like the personal touch with the engraving, shame I don't have a middle name so mine would be a bit dull!

In terms of satchel preferences, I've always been searching for something slightly worn in. As much as I am so tempted to buy a brand new one, I'm a bit scared of the way they look so squeaky clean and new, haha! On the other hand, it's interesting how it's yours to make your mark on it if that makes sense... Pricing doesn't allow me to buy a new one, anyway, but I shall save up and hope Santa will be generous (oh dear, Christmas references in September.)! One thing I hatehatehate though is neon satchels.

  4. Ha! I spy that Maoam from the Kipling event? I think I still have a sweet from them somewhere at the bottom of my bag too :P

LOVE that satchel, it's so cute. You really do have a thing for them don't you? Love the initials. I adore the slightly smaller satchels and as opposed to some of the other commenters, I think the neon pink ones are amaze! :D Though subtler colours are much easier to work with so red and slightly smaller sounds like a winning combo!

  5. The Satchel is lovely Kristabel [and also, helloo!! I feel like I haven't spoken to you in a while, my fault entirely :\], especially in that colour - I'm way too used to seeing them in black or brown [including my own] but this is a great way to brighten up autumnal colours.
And get you with your initialled leather! Like a pro ;) x

  7. Love this satchel to bit, the colour is lush and really versatile too. I'm the same with bags, I like them fairly simply and the ability to go with most outfits so nothing too outrageous looking! I've been after a cambridge satchel company tan bag for a while now but I'm definitely checking out this website

  10. Actually, I don't know what I think about satchels. What I love about them is the slightly nerdy feel, the various colours they come in and also that they combine both vintage and modern. What I don't like about them (which is not the fault of the satchels as such) is that almost everyone has them these days. I don't mind sticking with the crowd but in this case I think I will pass. But who knows, maybe my satchel time has yet to come ;)

  12. I really loved satchels (I still do) but I have recently developed a love for doctors bags.

I'm sure I saw your mum twice, once by Stella McCartney/Matthew Williamson (can't remember the name of the street) and the other... I'm not sure where.

  14. I flipping love satchels but decent ones are hard to come by in Australia at the moment; well, in Brisbane at least. Since I decided to go on exchange to Manchester next year I've had my eye on a Cambridge Satchel Company one but the buckles to get into it put me off - that would drive me crazy! This looks like a much better option. I love the colour too. It's pretty much perfect.

  15. Something always holds me back from buying a Cambridge Satchel..I don't know what it is. They look perfect, and perfectly functioning. Maybe I like a bag that's a challenge?! Silly, but possible.

  18. What a beautiful satchel!

Seen these a couple of times, and starting to think it's about time I got my hands on one in a slightly brighter colour ready for the dull winter.

    Great post, as usual.

  27. I am really loving that bag and the blue is a gorgeous colour. Really taps into the trend of colour blocking. Satchels are great but they remind me too much of my student days which I am trying to put behind me. It was lovely meeting you at the IFB do.
