Monki Mania

monki selfridges peter pan

Just a few snaps I took in the Monki concession in Selfridges last week, which luckily isn't too far from where I work.  Expect many diversions here on the way home.  It's been a couple of years since I first discovered the brand through blogging (there's even a designated label on this blog) and started admiring it's pieces from afar with no way of buying them.  It was simply torture.  I was tempted to resort to desperate measures and buy a flight to Sweden just to get my hands on various baggy jumpers and tops but somehow I saw sense and made do with the magazine and internet images.  Now they have a reasonably sized concession on the ground floor in Selfridges, amongst the Topshop, American Apparel and even Jack Wills areas and offer something slightly more offbeat at a competitive price point.  Usually when European stores migrate, they replace the € sign with the £, but Monki works out slightly less than the Euro rate, making it cheaper to buy it here in the UK.

I'm trying to be a careful shopper at the moment and there wasn't too much in stock that I felt I really 'needed' but I did manage to buy two jumpers (on the hottest day ever, what a conundrum) and admire some duffle coats.  I think Monki occupies an important space on the High Street, with pieces inspired by forward thinking labels like Acne and even Opening Ceremony but at an affordable price. I had a few pieces from the website in mind when I went in, but couldn't see many of them, so here's what I'm hoping I will find next in store.

Have you visited Monki's London store yet?  I can't wait for them to open a bigger space, which fully realises their concept but this new concession is definitely a happy medium.

If I'm honest, I didn't realise Monki had a store in London (shame on me). The camel-coloured tank top looks interesting.
