Archive Assembly

Never has a day been so surreal in all of my life.  Even though I had been working towards the 19th May fashion show deadline since February, somehow it seemed like that date was so far off that it would somehow never actually happen. For those of you that don't know, I'm a final year Fashion Knitwear student at Nottingham Trent, a course where we design and knit the fabric using machines before making it up into garments.  I'd always been anxious about this year after observing previous students a while ago and still wasn't quite sure what I'd end up with less than two months before the show.  I'm going to explain a bit more about my concept and the process of knitting in a future post, but for now, here's my graduate collection titled 'Archive Assembly.'

Luckily Winnie, Lucy and Jazmine were able to come and see the show and take an insane amount of photos.  I'm glad they had a fun day out before meeting up with me, so be sure to check out their reports on the day!  Also a massive thanks to Tabio who provided the perfect socks for styling.

mum and I
Was glad my Mum and Nan (not pictured unfortunately) could finally travel up from London and see my collection.  I can't remember who took this photo, but will figure it out soon!*

More photos can be seen on my portfolio website and flickr of all my work. I have also just found out that I will be showing my collection at Graduate Fashion Week on June 7th, which is a dream come true!

Four Eyes

new sunnies
Can you spot the bit of yarn near my collar, seriously it gets everywhere!

Sunglasses can hide a multitude of sins.  When you've been knitting solidly every day since Easter, the bags under the eyes tend to come out in full force and don't seem to want to leave for the forseeable future.  Luckily Mister Spex offered to send me a new pair of sunglasses of my choice and with some careful help cajoling from my mother, I went for the Tom Ford Raquel pair.  It's not normally a style I would be able to afford, especially since I'm prone to breaking my cheapie sunglasses by stepping on them or just leaving them rattling around in my bag, but I'm determined to take good care of these.   They have a proper matching case for goodness sake!  I'm a major fan of 70s style sunglasses, which I love wearing regardless of trends and this pair is no exception.  The subtle logo, cut out detail and contrast gold on the arms make them super special and hopefully this is the start of a long-term protective eyewear relationship (I have a back up H&M pair for when I'm feeling particularly clumsy).  What sort of sunglasses will you be wearing this summer?

I can't quite believe how time has flown but the show is tomorrow!  In true last minute stylee there are a few things to finish off but the end is finally in sight after a crazy few months.  I'm really excited to see my family plus Winnie, Jazmine and Lucy!

2. Suede Shorts via Geneva
3. Zara Jumper (for colour blocking purposes)
4. Sheer pleated skirt via Geneva
5. Swedish Hasbeens for H&M

At the moment I'm having slight knitting overload and the only clothes I'm concerned about now are the ones I need to make.  Despite this, I've somehow managed a few new wardrobe additions over the past month through the magic of the internet, and I've worn all of them bar the shorts (not very practical for the knitting machine) and the Swedish Hasbeens for H&M (will hopefully be wearing them to the show).  What have you all been buying recently?  I still have a fair few things to sort out, knitting-wise, so expect no more posts over the next two weeks (but maybe the odd tweet and Tumblr picture).  If anyone lives near Nottingham and would like to come to the show to see what Fashion Knitwear is all about, details can be found here.  If not, I will be blogging all the gory details afterwards.

See you on the other side, looking forward to having my life back!
