Spring Thinking

It seems that as soon as March 1st appeared on my calendar, it seemed wrong to be clinging to the angora jumpers and dense tights of February and start thinking of more summery combinations to wear.  I guess I should secretly be glad that I live in a country which hosts all four seasons.  As soon as you start to tire of one, the next incarnation is waiting in the wings with just the right amount of change with regards to trends.  Of course i'm not one to discard my wardrobe completely when all the new season stuff hits, and this recent Times article about the 'style portfolio' really resonated with me (I've screencapped it here for those of you who don't subscribe).  These are the bits and bobs we've picked up along the way such as the perfect summer dress from a few years ago or the comfiest cashmere cardigan unearthed in the January sales.  I'm all for the mixed-up wardrobe that transcends trends, styles, seasons and price points purely because I like to leave no stone unturned.  I've chosen some pieces I like from the Spring collections of a few brands I like, each with a different aesthetic but sharing the common thread that is present within my own style.

It's pretty much a given that I will like too many things from the A.P.C website which I can rarely afford full-price, but what I like about the brand are the perfect mix of basics and more distinctive items they produce each season.  Within the collection you can see the expected Breton style tops and practical outerwear in combination with ditsy Liberty florals and their take on leopard print.  I can already tell what I'll be going after in the clearance sales but in the meantime I shall make do with the pieces I bought a few months ago, which are still perfect for transitional weather.

Yet again I have seen multiple pieces I like when I'm roughly six hours and three countries away from my nearest store (according to Google Maps) with no continental shopping trips planned in the near future.  I wish that more of this stuff had been in stock when I was in Berlin a few months ago, providing a way to wear pastels that isn't as sickly sweet as everything else that's on offer.

For my more ladylike side, I've turned to the Boutique by Jaeger collection yet again.  They've produced even more of the waisted dress style I like plus a few key separates to get their take on the 1950s trend that just never goes away.  The sailor style dress is a particular favourite and not so ridiculously literal that it looks like a costume, plus the frilled denim shorts are almost within my price range and are the perfect antidote to the cut-off style I've never quite got on with.

Aubin & Wills is a fairly recent addition to my radar and gradually I've been tempted by their lookbooks and lifestyle photography enough to want to own something by them pretty soon.  It still has a few of the quirky details present in the younger Jack Wills counterpart, such as an appealing store atmosphere, intricate labelling and focus on all things British but provides a more stealth take on style.  There is barely a logo in sight and the preppy staples it specialises in are able to blend seamlessly with items from various other brands.

I realise that I've primarily chosen clothing that is typical of my style and it's all very well and good having a collection of stripy tops, but I'm also hoping to take a few more risks this Spring.  I'm still trying to work out what exactly these risks are but I know that I want to experiment with prints more and feel comfortable without all of the layers I've been hiding underneath for the past five months or so.  What type of things are you hoping to buy this Spring?

lovely picks! I'm into a lot of the same things at the moment, stock pilling breton tops, comfy hooded numbers and preppy shoes.

have also been eyeing up the aubin and wills catalogue, especially the floral jump suit - they do a really lovely dress similar to the blue, red and cream patterned shirt... Would look great under a trench

Great selection! These are all sooo on point with your style..I can really see you wearing them well! I'm totally with you about moving on to Spring. I've actually realized that I'm not okay with having 4 seasons and would love it to be summer allll the time, like back home in Miami. But of course, I'm saying that now. We'll see how I feel about that when I'm there for 3 months....
